WELCOME
Welcome to our Czech Art Glass & Bohemian Crystal Collection.
On
the following pages, is a presentation of some of the many exquisite
art glass and crystal objects that are being produced in the Czech
Republic - formerly Czechoslovakia and, before that, the Kingdom of
Bohemia, where some of the finest crystal and art glass has been
produced for many centuries.
Although Czech
glass does not enjoy the same brand recognition in the United States
as, say, Lalique, Waterford, Swarovski, Murano and others, Czech art
glass and Bohemian crystal holds a significant place in European
glass-making history. Bohemian glass-makers have been credited
with some of the most important innovations in glass-making techniques
and Bohemia was considered a premiere glass-making center for the
production of high-quality glass and crystal.
Today, most pieces continue to be individually hand made by Czech skilled glass artisans in limited quantities and, due to the hand crafted nature of these items, many are unique originals - no two are ever exactly the same.
While some are
mouth or hand blown, others are made utilizing antique molds from the
Art Deco period. Even though vintage molds are used in the production
of these items, they require extensive finishing by hand which
contributes to the uniqueness of each piece thus produced.
Although, with rare
exception, we are no longer actively engaged in selling Czech art glass
and Bohemian crystal, we continue to admire and appreciate its beauty,
historical value and fine tradition and, thus, have dedicated certain
pages of this site to its continued promotion and recognition.
